Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd recently launched their business as official dealer of Dongfeng trucks by introducing a comprehensive range of heavy-duty trucks to the Malaysian market. Addressing the demands of local transport owners, the business is headed by industry veteran (Mr) Quek Wang, Executive Director of Dongfeng Heavy Industries. Dongfeng Heavy Industries will be operating from Jalan Meru, Klang as their headquarters following their appointment as official distributor late last year. Truck models chosen as initial line-up are to be complementary to each other, covering tippers, cement mixers and prime movers. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles is a leading manufacturer known for its innovative, durable, and high-tech commercial vehicles. During the event, Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd signed a purchase agreement with Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles for 200 truck units. Additionally, the assembly agreement between Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd and Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd, as well as several purchase agreements with clients were also finalised.
Representing Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, Wang Long, Chairman of the Board & Party Secretary, China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import & Export Co Ltd, extended his heartfelt congratulations to its Malaysian partners on the opening of their new dealership. Underscoring the commitment of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, he said that “This milestone reflects Dongfeng's continued commitment to strengthening its presence in Malaysia while enhancing customer support and aftersales services.” Dongfeng Heavy Industries is expected to play a key role in expanding market reach and delivering greater value to transport and haulage operators nationwide.
During the official launch, Quek Wang introduced his team, dedicated to the brand, as well as the products in detail. “We understand the concerns of transport companies and thus, have decided to introduce this latest generation of Dongfeng heavy duty trucks. In particular, we would like to point out that these vehicles comply with EURO V emission standards, using tried and tested engine and drivetrain technology from leading manufacturers.” On display during the launch were 4x2 and 6x4 prime movers, 6x4 and 8x4 tippers as well as 6x4 cement mixers. According to Quek, these vehicles are complimentary to each other, and he is expecting customers to order a mix of these vehicles. The vehicles are to be imported as CKD variants with Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd as assembly partner on record.
On the appointment of Gemilang Coachwork, Quek commented that their Johor-based supplier is uniquely positioned as the ideal assembly partner for Dongfeng Heavy Industries. “They bring decades of precision manufacturing expertise, advanced production engineering capabilities, and rigorous quality control processes to the table,” he said. Beyond conventional vehicle assembly, Gemilang Coachwork's strength lies in integrating complex systems, managing stringent compliance requirements, and maintaining consistent build standards across diverse vehicle platforms. “Our proven ability to transform CKD units into reliable, market-ready commercial vehicles makes us a perfect fit as a strategic partner for Dongfeng's growth ambitions in Malaysia,” Pang Jun Jie, Director of Gemilang Coachwork said during the signing of the assembly agreement during the event.
The trust in the quality of the Dongfeng vehicles also stems from the fact that the brand is generally considered as the second national automotive brand. In particular, Dongfeng has been supplying to the Chinese military, which means that the trucks will be designed and tested to extremely rugged conditions. “We will not say that these trucks will never break down, however, considering the way they are constructed and built, we are confident that they can offer a high amount of uptime.” To supplement the sales, Dongfeng Heavy Industries will have workshops set up in strategic locations. These will have to comply with stringent checks. Ensuring that customers get the full service, he added “Every workshop that we sign on has to have mobile rescue service. We understand that getting any broken-down vehicle back on the road is a major concern and we want to ensure that we can offer this to our clients.”
